Every Saturday QueerAF helps you understand queer headlines and stay on top of the latest LGBTQIA+ content - all while we support queer creatives. It's written by me, Jamie Wareham, and a different queer creative each week.
π¬ This week:
- Guardian Boycott. Two of the UKβs most prominent trans journalists announce a boycott of working with the paper after another anti-trans article was released on the eve of Pride Month.
- Announcements galore. Pride month is a strange month for LGBTQIA+ news. It basically stops, while everyone regurgitates what we say all year. Still, it's when we get a bumper set of TV, Film and other queer content announcements. All below.
- Barbie. Last week we told you about the transgender Barbie with Laverne Cox. This week in the Queer Gaze section, trans parent Marley Conte tells us why it matters and the impact it will have.
Skip the doom scrolling and support queer creatives instead. We are QueerAF β and so are you.
ποΈ The Guardian faces boycott from LGBTQIA+ journalists
TL;DR - Two freelance trans journalists pulling out of the Guardianβs Pride special coverage marks an important moment for the UK media, and LGBTQIA+ journalists working in it. They've called for a boycott of the paper until it improves it's editorial approach to reporting on trans lives.
