How do I login? Or set my password?
We use secure email-link based logins not passwords
To login, enter you email, and we'll send you a link to log you in.
You'll then have access to QueerAF content and be able to make changes to your account, or payment details.
Not getting it? Try checking your spam and other folders.
How do I change or add my name to my profile?
Super easy - you can manage it in the account portal
Simply hit the floaty red button in the bottom right of the screen.
If you have a gravatar, you also might see your picture floating there instead.
Why would you add your name? So we can write to you with a bit more queer interpersonal connection. Afterall, you're a human not a bot right?
If information isn't a luxury – why should I pay for QueerAF?
We're an ad-free newsletter. And always will be. Advertisers want clicks, not content that counts.
But that means we rely on memberships and people like you to chip in to fund our (award-winning) work publishing, mentoring, and building the resilience of queer creatives.
People who pay for this newsletter do two things.
- They help keep this newsletter free for everyone because information about LGBTQIA+ lives shouldn't be a luxury.
- They fund our real work supporting a new generation of queer creatives to start a media career. We give creatives their first commissions, help them build a media career and work with them to change the industry.
So if you think our work counts - and you can afford it, please consider becoming a member of QueerAF.
10% of people who read our newsletter, think it's so good, they pay for it. In return they get membership perks. Are you our next member?
What do you do with my data?
Great question – we've watched The Social Dilemma and so should you.
Making technology more human is vital. We also think queer theory has some of the answers to help protect everyone in a world driven by algorithms. Afterall, we get that life isn't all a binary code.
Since we've begun QueerAF, we've been sense checking our platform through the Centre for Humane Technology's design guide to make sure our site is easy to use, and not sucking too much of your attention.
This is what you need to know about the way we handle data, payments and process your stuff:
👻 We host with Ghost, a non-profit organisation building open source technology for journalism. We pay them a monthly hosting fee.
📧 Our newsletter is also sent through Ghost. However we also use Mailerlite and MailerSend, for some transactional emails and so your email address goes to our 'audiences' there too. Currently we are on a free plan with them.
💵 We handle payments through Stripe – they charge us 1.4% + 20p of the cost of each European payment (and 2.9% + 20p non-European cards).
🌈 Social media algorithms don't make it easy for us to spread queer content organically. When you become a free member we may use your email to get social media adverts into your feeds. We do this because AI algorithms are set up to fail LGBTQIA+ people. We sometimes pay to promote QueerAF content into people's feeds. You can opt-out of this at anytime by contacting us below.
🍪 You can review your cookie choices at any time in the bottom left of your screen. We only use them for anaylitics, essential functions and improving the site.
➡️ TL;DR: We collect your email address and name (if you give it to us) when you sign up to the newsletter. Otherwise, we're committed to tracking as little else as possible.
