Every Saturday, QueerAF helps you understand the queer headlines and stay on top of the latest LGBTQIA+ content - all while we support queer creatives. It's written by me, Jamie Wareham, and a different queer creative each week.
π¬ This week:
- Monkeypox. A special look at what we've learned from our new podcast series on the pandemic that no-ones talking about, for all the same reasons HIV faced.
- LGBA. The divisive charity is facing a legal challenge to it's status. What does that mean - and why was it already rebuked this week?
- Peppa Pig. Just got very gay - and other queer content to look out for this week.
Skip the doom scrolling and support queer creatives instead. We are QueerAF β and so are you.
π Talking about gay, bi men and monkeypox? You need to start saying this
By adding the words βsexually activeβ before βgay,β βbi,β and βqueer men who have sex with men,β we can find the crucial balance between getting information about monkeypox to those who need it most, without stigmatising the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The misinformation around monkeypox has felt all too familiar.
Some less subtle than others, but prejudiced headlines across the board have tried to position gays as the problem behind the Global North's outbreak. They've put the community on the back foot.
