Every Saturday, QueerAF helps you understand the queer headlines and stay on top of the latest LGBTQIA+ content - all while we support queer creatives. This week, it's written by Matilda Davies, while Jamie takes a well-deserved break, and another queer creative as usual.
π¬ This week:
- War on drag. Tennessee is set to become the first state to ban drag. But thatβs just a symptom of a deeper problem for both the US and UK.
- Danny Keeling. A non-binary councilor was repeatedly misgendered, bringing issues about inclusivity in politics to light.
- Misogyny. Ever been called misogynistic for supporting trans rights? Youβre not alone. This silencing tactic is rife in gender-critical circles as Helen Bowie explores in the Queer Gaze.
Skip the doom scrolling and support queer creatives instead. We are QueerAF β and so are you.
Tennessee wants to ban drag, but the problem is far bigger than one state
TL;DR: Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill banning public drag shows, which is now on the governorβs desk. But the war on drag spreads far further than that - and is far more insidious.
