Before we get started, I want to say a quick -  but huge - thank you.

Not only did we hit our crowdfunding target, we smashed through it - and onto our stretch goal. After transaction fees and VAT, 237 of you helped us raise £9.5K for QueerAF to invest in new activity improving access to LGBTQIA+ journalism, for the whole community.

We've already started delivering our pledges, with investigations in the last month directly funded from your donations. In the coming weeks, we'll also:

  • Launch a new investigation and news mentoring scheme, for early talent and student journalists to pitch investigations to expose the anti-trans machine and explore Trans+ healthcare systems.
  • Increase the hours dedicated to our Trans+ lead investigative journalist so they can deliver even more critical scoops.
  • Prepare to launch a new queer good-news digest later this year, so you can see how we're winning.
  • And - thanks to funding towards our stretch goal - we'll create a new FOI mini-grant scheme, plus resources on how to be a citizen journalist.

We don't take this investment in us lightly. It comes with great responsibility to continue to deliver on our founding goals and community interest commitments. We won't be wasting time, and work is already underway to deliver these outcomes for you. As for those of you who got perks, look out for details on how to claim memberships and badges in your inbox in the coming weeks.

Our books prize draw is in its final days - tickets also support the crowdfunder. So if you fancy yourself an amazing selection of queer, Trans+ and history books while helping us push that crowdfunding total up - grab yourself a ticket.

For now though, we are Queer As Fuck – and so are you.

💬 This week:

  • 99%: A new report by Trans Actual finds that practically all trans people in the UK say transphobia is impacting their mental health. We get perspective from the organisation's policy lead Tammy Hymas on what their report discovers.
  • them: Another week, another significant shift in the way queer media is being run. We look at shifting trends following the sale of Conde Nast's outlet them.
  • Social Media Bans: As an amendment is tabled in the House of Lords, and Spain becomes the latest country to ban teens from social media, we explore the impact of these 'blunt instrument' approaches on LGBTQIA+ youth in the Queer Gaze.

Skip the doomscrolling and support queer creatives instead. We are QueerAFand so are you.

Devastating report into trans lives shows we are ‘stronger together’, says Green leader Zack Polanski

TL;DR: A new report has found that the mental health of nearly every single trans person in the UK has been impacted by transphobia. Writing for QueerAF,  TransActual policy lead Tammy Hymas (she/her) shares her perspective on the report and says the findings make clear why many Trans+ people might be feeling powerless right now.
