The Green Party victory in Gorton and Denton is a landmark moment for British Politics – and one that provides a significant win for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Not because of who won, but because they won without feeling the need to bow to media pressures and stamp on minorities. Rather, they did so by standing by values that, as Hannah Spencer said, oppose "the politicisation and degradation of human rights".

We're a proudly non-partisan outlet, and strongly believe we are strongest in serving the LGBTQIA+ audience by presenting you with information and facts, and separating out our analysis so you can make your own mind up. Today's top story analyses this moment's significance in terms of the lesson it offers leaders of all ilks, from politicians to charity leaders. You can criticise the failures of those in power, bring the electorate along with you, and gain the respect and attention of UK voters.

Our role as a provider of information, so you can fight back, has been no better shown by the way you've taken our journalism and used it this month. We've already told you about how our library story sparked interest all over the UK and led to our readers working to get harmful books off shelves. It's not an ask we made of you – it was what you decided to do with that journalism.

Elsewhere, we bring you an exclusive look at a new report - presented to the Equalities Minister this week - using our journalism as one of the key backbones in its argument against potentially harmful draft guidance in schools.

Without critical information, LGBTQIA+ perspectives, and investigations, our community can't fight back. Information truly is a tool for liberation, and that's why we've been fundraising this month to improve access to it.

We have just 5% left to hit our first crowdfunder target, with just a day left to go.

Last week, you really showed up during the matchfunding and maxed it out - thank you. And if we hit our target today, any additional funds will go towards our stretch target pledge:

  • FOI fund: A micro-grant fund for LGBTQIA+ activists to apply for stipends, for doing freedom of information requests - enabling the QueerAF audience to be citizen journalists by holding power to account.

I'm so excited about the potential of this, in how it can support our community and readers like you in feeling even more agency over change-making and shaping the news agenda.

And that's why I'm pleased to say we've got an 11th-hour matchfunding contribution to help us get there (up to Β£250), which, if met, would help us reach our goal.

Help us smash our target in our final few hours of our crowdfunder.

  • Green Party Win: We look at the significance of the Green Party win for LGBTQIA+ rights, as well as what it means for the UK's political norms.
  • GANHRI: Another two organisations have joined a flurry of Trans+ rights groups calling for the UN body to intervene and remove the UK Equality Watchdog's status as a respected authority on equality.
  • We can't be erased: The Trans+ community thrives, even under adversity and with so many barriers in place. Another look at our ultimate toolkit to shut down lies about Trans+ people with Trans+ History Week.

Skip the doomscrolling and support queer creatives instead. We are QueerAF – and so are you.

You can support Trans+ rights and win a British election: A consequential Green victory

TL;DR: The Green Party has won the Gorton and Denton byelection, with 40% of the vote share. Hannah Spencer will head to Westminster as an MP for the party led by out gay leader Zack Polanski. She campaigned on ending divisive politics, and being vocal about progressive issues including Trans+ rights and Gaza - Analysis, by Jamie Wareham
