Building on our reveal of the MoD's new trans policies for the armed forces, we can now confirm a wider civil service rollout of the EHRC Code of Practice, this weekend we bring you perhaps a more concerning part of the story.

Not only can we confirm another department's approach, but that the NHS, Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence all knew these policies would harm Trans+ people, and in some cases disabled people too, with "adverse impacts.” Indeed, our questions to multiple Government departments led a government spokesperson to confirm that guidance has been issued to transgender staff across the Civil Service.

We also explore how one of the deaths we verified for our investigation into the higher suicide rates of Trans+ people in the UK has contributed to an important report into NHS A&E departments. Meanwhile, a timely exclusive from our friends at Leicester Gazette, co-founded by QueerAF alum Rhys Everquill, alongside a broader exploration of the BBC's deteriorating LGBTQIA+ representation, despite once being at the forefront of advances of it.

We also look at a critical example of how the fight back against anti-trans lies is not only in action, but winning. UK activists, doctors and researchers submitted evidence that has helped overturn New Zealand's puberty blocker ban.

The fight is far from over.

We've been on the front line of huge revelations this week, and we've taken great care to verify facts and speak to those who will be directly affected, so we can bring you information you can use to fight back.

  • MoD: We reveal the armed forces were aware that new trans policies would have an adverse effect, but pushed ahead anyway.
  • MoJ: We confirm another civil service department's rollout of the EHRC Code of Practice, and how it will affect trans prison staff.
  • BBC: Ahead of a critical few months for the public broadcaster with charter renewal around the corner, we look at its increasing retreat from progressive LGBTQIA+ representation in the Queer Gaze, as it announces cuts to BBC Three.

MoD's own report warns of 'adverse impacts' of new Trans troop segregation policy

Exclusive | TL;DR: The Ministry of Defence's own equality impact assessment warned about "adverse impacts" of guidance, revealed by QueerAF, which will see Trans armed forces members often segregated from single-sex spaces; could create increased risk of β€˜sex policing’, "exclusion" and lack of "dignified provision". It also found it could affect disabled service personnel and civil servants. Despite this risk, the assessment recommended continuing to implement the policy.
